Reports indicate that Apple is developing a foldable iPhone that may compete against smartphones released by brands such as Samsung, Oppo, and Huawei. Recent leaks from a source on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, have revealed information regarding the expected inner and outer displays of this potential foldable iPhone, which is speculated to adopt a book-like design featuring a "revolutionary" screen ratio. Although Apple has not officially stated intentions to release a foldable smartphone, it has received patents for technologies relevant to such products.
According to the tipster known as Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) in a Weibo post, Apple's book-style foldable is anticipated to be similar to the Oppo Find N series but with a shorter and wider form factor. The tipster also mentioned that the device could come equipped with a 5.49-inch cover display, matching the dimensions of the outer screen found on Oppo’s first-generation Find N model.
Internally, the expected foldable iPhone is believed to feature a 7.74-inch display, which the source describes as unfolding similarly to an iPad, providing ample space for content visibility. Furthermore, it is suggested that the device will boast an "unparalleled" aspect ratio. Digital Chat Station posits that Apple's rumored foldable device could merge smartphone and tablet capabilities. Should Apple proceed with this launch, it would find itself in direct competition with other book-style foldables, including Oppo’s Find N series and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold collection.
Earlier this month, another source pointed out that Apple's inaugural foldable phone might debut as soon as next year, with potential introductions of a foldable iPad and MacBook slated for 2027. Additionally, a recent report highlighted that Apple has secured a supplier for ultra-thin glass aimed at its forthcoming foldable device.
Conversely, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously noted that the tech giant is also exploring an iPad-like foldable concept that would avoid any visible crease. This product is projected to be released in 2028. While Apple has not made any formal announcements regarding a foldable device, further information on these speculative products is anticipated in the months ahead.
