Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton hold a rally in Charlotte on Thursday. She addressed the supporters at Johnson C. Smith University in the county.
Clinton was scheduled to speak around noon at the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium at JCSU, but arrived nearly 1 p.m. due to a disabled plane on the runway.
Clinton said to the crowd, that, "I have a plan to help all of you afford to go to college." "I have a plan to help you with student debt. And I have a special plan for a $25 million fund specifically aimed at supporting HBCUs."
"North Carolina, under the current governor and legislature, has been trying to restrict people's right to vote. There has been a concerted effort to undermine people's right to vote," she said.
"Discrimination is not only wrong," Clinton said, "it's bad for business. They aren't coming to this beautiful state because they don't want to be associated by bigoted policies in NC. And what you have to do about it is change your governor and change one of your senators. We're going to need reinforcements up in Washington." e of your senators. We're going to need reinforcements up in Washington."
She also offered scathing assessments of her rival, Donald Trump. "He should not be anywhere near the White House. He is temperamentally unfit. He trash talked America's generals saying they'd been reduced to rubble.”
"He praised Russia's strongman, Vladimir Putin," Clinton went on. "Even taking the astonishing step of suggesting he prefers the Russian president to our American president. What would Ronald Reagan say about a Republican nominee who attacks America's generals and heaps praise on Russia's president?"
"Whether you're passionate about more good jobs, education, health care, protecting our country and the great men and women who serve us, you have to realize that this is a time to put country over party," Clinton said. "We have never been threatened as much by a single candidate running for president as we have been in this election."
Trump's North Carolina campaign director fired back at Clinton in a statement. Jason Simmons said that, “Hillary Clinton's visit to Charlotte to raise money and hold a last-minute rally comes right after her dismal performance in last night's commander-in-chief forum, where she showed herself completely unfit to serve as President, with her misuse of classified emails on her homebrew server and her pay-to-play scheme where she traded official State Department access for donation to the Clinton foundation from foreign agents."
"North Carolina voters are tired of the same old Washington corruption and back-room deals from career politicians like Hillary and will vote for change in November," he added.
