Recently, Samsung seems to be moving away from the S-Pen. Initially, they removed the stylus's wireless abilities in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Currently, their latest folding phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, also cannot use the S-Pen to maintain a thin design. However, a new report from South Korea suggests that the business may be intending to restore the stylus function in later models of the Galaxy Z foldable, maybe even adding a designated spot for it. As reported by a news article from the South Korean news source ETNews, Samsung is developing new technology related to the S-Pen. This information came from Kang Min-seok, the head of Smartphone Product Planning at Samsung. Their aim is to add stylus capability back into upcoming Galaxy Z Fold versions. It is worth noting that the Galaxy Z Fold 7, unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event on July 9, marks the initial book-style foldable from the South Korean business in recent years to lack S-Pen functionality. This aligns with a trend noticed recently, where Samsung had previously removed wireless features from the newest Galaxy S25 Ultra stylus.

While Samsung's current Galaxy S top-tier smartphone does include an S-Pen, it lacks features like Air actions, remote camera control, and use without hands. The company said at the product announcement that these features were taken out because “less than 1 percent” of users actually made use of the stylus. Nevertheless, it is still possible that the S-Pen might return in later versions of the Galaxy Z book-style foldable phone. The report noted that Samsung is researching and creating stylus technologies that are “thinner and more innovative”. They intend to bring back the S-Pen when the "level of perfection" gets better, along with greater interest from customers. The official also made clear that the business wants to find a good mix in their products instead of solely focusing on ensuring they are "thin and light."
