Apple is currently developing the Vision Pro 2, which will feature compatibility with advanced enterprise applications and low-latency connectivity, as reported by Bloomberg. This new version is set to succeed the first-generation Vision Pro mixed reality headset that debuted in the United States and other regions last year. Additionally, there are indications that Apple is creating a revised model of the original Vision Pro that aims to be lighter and more cost-effective. Unlike its predecessor, which operates wirelessly, the second-generation device will connect through a cable to a Mac, according to Gurman's latest article in his Power On newsletter. He notes that this wired setup could significantly enhance functionality.
This direct connection is expected to provide low-latency performance, facilitating advanced enterprise functionalities and potentially allowing users to stream content directly from a Mac's display to the Vision Pro 2. Initially, Apple had plans for a set of augmented reality glasses that would also require a connection to a Mac, but those plans have reportedly been abandoned in favor of focusing on the Vision Pro 2. Gurman further mentions that an updated model of the initial Vision Pro, which is lighter, is also being worked on. The first mixed reality headset weighs between 600 and 650 grams without the external battery.
The upcoming revised model is anticipated to be priced lower than the original Vision Pro, which retails for $3,500 (approximately Rs. 3.01 lakh). In comparison, Meta's priciest mixed reality headset is available for $500 (around Rs. 43,100), suggesting that Apple might be aiming to introduce a more competitively priced option to rival the Meta Quest 3. A recent report indicated that the Vision Pro 2 could be launched later this year, with component production already underway. However, considering the underwhelming sales of the first-generation product and potential tariff-related challenges, it remains uncertain how Apple will stimulate demand for the Vision Pro 2 if it is released in the near future.
