BCCI to Rethink about Sacking Gautam Gambhir November 28, 2025 20:18

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider alternatives to Gautam Gambhir as the coach for Test cricket. India's unexpected defeat in the Test series against South Africa at home has cast doubt on Gambhir's position with the team in this longer format. The Indian team faced a severe loss, losing by 408 runs in the second match, leading to a 0-2 series defeat in the two-match encounter. Despite this, Tiwary wasn't surprised by the outcome and noted that it seemed destined to happen due to Gambhir's confusing strategies. "Honestly, it was clear what would happen. It was bound to occur. I sensed things were not right; the approach they were using is not a suitable plan. There was an obvious lack of consistency. This was evident in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the home series against New Zealand, and now against South Africa," Tiwary commented. Tiwary further stated that it's time for the BCCI to remove Gambhir to protect Indian Test cricket. "Definitely. There is no doubt about it. (whether India should have a different coach for red-ball cricket). It’s about time they made this choice to preserve Indian Test cricket. That's the essential fact." Following the loss to South Africa, Gambhir defended his record by mentioning his victories in the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup, as well as the Test series draw in England. However, Tiwary challenged Gambhir's claims, arguing that India might have easily lost that series in England and remarked that he took over an ODI team that was built by Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli. "Gambhir seems to think that drawing the series in England with a young team was a significant achievement. In my view, that draw was not a positive outcome for us. It wasn’t an impressive result; given our strong players, England made mistakes by being too aggressive on the final day. They could have easily won the series 3-1. There hasn’t been any remarkable success during his time," Tiwary stated. "I watched a video where he claimed victories in the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. The foundation of this team was laid by Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and previously by Virat Kohli. Even without Gambhir as the coach for those two tournaments, India would have still triumphed since the team was already strong. It’s quite unfortunate to see a coach who primarily focuses on white-ball cricket managing India as the head coach. If you lack hands-on experience at the fundamental level, how can you expect to achieve results at the highest level? It is nearly impossible," he added.

Vladimir Putin to Visit India on December 4th November 28, 2025 20:09

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India on December 4 and 5 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. This trip is in response to an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In recent months, the two nations have become closer after the United States imposed tariffs on India's imports of Russian oil. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, "At the invitation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will visit India from 4 to 5 December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit." During his stay in India, Putin will have discussions with PM Modi. President Droupadi Murmu will also greet the Russian president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and will hold a banquet in his honour. According to the government, Putin's visit will allow Indian and Russian leaders to assess the progress in their relations, plan ways to strengthen their 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,' and share ideas on regional and global matters of shared interest. The announcement of Putin's trip to India was made in August during National Security Advisor Ajit Doval's visit to Moscow. At that time, the specific dates were not confirmed. In September, PM Modi and Putin met during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China, where they had a conversation for an hour in Putin's limousine. Earlier this month, PM Modi sent his regards to Putin when Nikolai Patrushev, an aide to the Russian president, visited him in Delhi. The PM also expressed his anticipation of Putin’s visit to India next month. India and Russia have maintained a strong bond, with trade and investment connections since the time of the Soviet Union. Over the years, the economic partnership has grown stronger, with Russia becoming one of India's leading suppliers of weapons. Additionally, India has been one of the largest importers of Russian oil. Trump had accused India of financing Russia's war against Ukraine through its oil purchases. Putin's trip could become an important point in India's international strategy, enhancing the strength of India-Russia relations while New Delhi manages its complicated relationship with Washington. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), Putin has considerably cut down his international travel. Since India is not a member of the ICC, it is not required to arrest the Russian leader.

Hong Kong Fire Toll rises to 94 November 28, 2025 15:37

On Thursday, Hong Kong faced its deadliest fire in 70 years, with the number of casualties from a huge fire at seven tall residential buildings in Tai Po rising to 94. Firefighters worked for a second day to control the raging flames on the upper levels, while rescue teams kept on rescuing people from smoke-filled hallways and burned apartments. Over 280 individuals were still missing, and officials warned that this number might increase, as many residents were believed to be trapped in the 32-story structures undergoing extensive renovations. The fire has left at least 76 people hurt, overwhelmed emergency services, and led to an extensive criminal investigation into safety issues at the subsidized housing complex. The fire started on Wednesday at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, a place built in 1983, housing almost 4,600 people across eight towers, most of which were covered in bamboo scaffolding and green mesh for renovations. Authorities confirmed 94 deaths, including a firefighter, marking it as the worst fire tragedy in Hong Kong in seven decades. Teams were still searching through smoke-filled floors Thursday night. More than 280 residents were still missing, with officials indicating that the list of missing people could change as they worked to match evacuation records and apartment information. A total of 76 victims sustained injuries from the fire, with 15 in critical condition and 28 in serious condition. Emergency rooms continuously received patients suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. The Hong Kong fire department sent out 304 fire trucks and rescue vehicles, utilizing drones to locate heat areas in the scaffolding to avoid flare-ups and to assist rescue teams in accessing the towers. Early reports from the police suggested that the quickly spreading fire was largely due to flammable materials used for renovation, like styrofoam sheets found covering lift openings on all levels. Investigators also noted that the outer mesh and coverings used during the renovation did not adhere to fire safety regulations, which likely worsened the fire's rapid ascent. Three people, including two directors and a consultant from the company in charge of the renovations, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter as the investigation expanded. The Hong Kong government revealed a relief fund of HKD 300 million (USD 43 million) and relocated hundreds of displaced residents to temporary housing. Chief Executive John Lee ordered immediate safety inspections at all public housing developments undergoing significant renovations. Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his sympathy, calling for full efforts to extinguish the fire, rescue those trapped, and provide support for affected families.

Donald Trump orders review of Green Cards from 19 Countries November 28, 2025 15:24

US President Donald Trump has instructed a wide examination of asylum applications that were approved during former President Joe Biden's term and Green Cards granted to people from 19 nations, according to officials from the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday. This decision followed US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) revealing new rules that tighten screening standards after an Afghan man who came to the US in 2021 shot two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. USCIS Director Joseph Edlow stated that this new policy would enable officials to view an applicant's home nation as a major negative aspect when evaluating immigration benefits. “It is my main duty to make sure every non-citizen is thoroughly checked and screened,” Edlow mentioned. “The safety of Americans is our top priority.” Officials indicated that the 19 nations involved are the same ones included in a presidential announcement from June that imposed complete or partial entry bans: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. Edlow explained that the new rules are a direct reaction to the tragic incident from yesterday and claimed that the Biden administration had spent four years weakening essential vetting and screening standards while focusing on quick resettlement from countries considered high-risk. The 29-year-old accused, Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, arrived in the US in 2021 through Operation Allies Welcome, a Biden program that helped evacuate and settle many Afghans after the US left Afghanistan. The revised policy directs USCIS officials to take into account factors such as whether the applicant's country can issue secure identification documents or assist with background checks. Officials assert that this modification reinforces the enforcement of Trump's national security order, PP 10949, which limits entry for foreign individuals regarded as potential dangers. The new guidance is effective immediately and applies to all applications pending or submitted on or after November 27, 2025. The unusual shooting of National Guard members, occurring the day before Thanksgiving, coincides with ongoing debates regarding the military’s presence in the capital and other cities nationwide, having sparked legal battles and broader discussions about the Trump administration's use of armed forces to tackle what officials describe as an escalating crime issue, as reported by The Associated Press.

Brazil Approves First Single-Dose Dengue Vaccine November 28, 2025 15:11

Brazilian officials announced on Wednesday the approval of the first-ever single-dose dengue vaccine in the world, celebrating it as a significant milestone as cases of this mosquito-transmitted illness rise across the globe due to higher temperatures. Dengue, which is characterized by severe flu-like symptoms, extreme tiredness, and body pain, hit unprecedented levels worldwide in 2024, with scientists linking its growth to climate change. The health agency of Brazil, ANVISA, has given the green light to Butantan-DV, created by the Butantan Institute in São Paulo, for individuals aged between 12 and 59. At present, the only dengue vaccine accessible around the world is TAK-003, which necessitates two doses given three months apart, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This new single-dose vaccine, developed following eight years of research in Brazil, will facilitate quicker and easier vaccination efforts. "This is a momentous achievement for science and public health in Brazil,” stated Esper Kallas, director of the Butantan Institute, during a press briefing in Sao Paulo. "A disease that has troubled us for many years can now be tackled with a very effective tool," he continued. During the clinical trials, the new vaccine demonstrated a 91.6 percent effectiveness against severe dengue, involving over 16,000 participants. The unpleasant effects of dengue have led to it being referred to as "breakbone fever." In serious instances, it can lead to hemorrhagic fever and even fatalities. The disease is spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes, which have begun to expand into areas where they typically did not thrive, resulting in dengue occurrences in Europe and parts of the United States. On a global scale, the WHO reported over 14.6 million dengue cases and nearly 12,000 deaths in 2024, marking the highest figures ever documented. Brazil accounted for half of these fatalities. Researchers from Stanford University in the United States published a report in 2024 estimating that global warming caused 19 percent of the dengue cases that year. Brazil has struck a deal with the Chinese firm WuXi Biologics to supply around 30 million doses of the vaccine in the latter half of 2026, as stated by Health Minister Alexandre Padilha at the press briefing.

Imran Khan's Sister issues Big Warning November 28, 2025 13:06

Where is Imran Khan? This question is trending right now. It's also a serious worry since his family says they haven't been allowed to see the former Prime Minister of Pakistan for many weeks. Aleema Khanum, one of Imran Khan's three sisters, has said that their family has often been turned away when trying to visit him. "Over the past six to seven months, we have faced many difficulties; sometimes I can see him, sometimes one of my sisters can see him, and sometimes no one can. We have often waited outside for hours," Imran Khan's sister shared with NDTV during a phone call. "In the last few days between August and September, we met him because he was involved in a court case while in jail. Our lawyers at the jail court mentioned that if we and the media were not allowed to see him and there was no open trial, we would refuse to appear before the judge again. Because of that, following the judge's instructions, he decided to continue with the case. So we attended court, saw Imran Khan, and he assured us that he was alright. He also sent some messages," Khanum stated. Imran Khan lost his position in 2022 due to a no-confidence vote after falling out of favor with the powerful military of the country. The former cricket star has been in custody since August 2023, facing numerous charges that he claims are politically driven. He was found guilty in a corruption case in January, along with his wife, receiving sentences of 14 and seven years, respectively. "Firstly, he should not be in prison. What charges are these against him? He has dealt with all the accusations. The charges in which he is declared innocent. A decision needs to be made now. The case finished about five or six weeks ago. We were waiting for the judgment. The judgment date was set for November 27. It was moved to December 28," she explained. When asked if they believed there was a conspiracy against him, Imran Khan's sister said: "How can we know unless we meet him? Let me share this: No one can even think of touching a hair on Imran's head. Try it and see what happens." The authorities at Adiala Jail today dismissed rumors on social media about Imran Khan's health, stating that he is in "totally good health." The leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which is Imran Khan's political party, have been updated on his health. The Adiala Jail officials mentioned in a statement that all needed care is being given to the head of PTI. They also made it clear that claims about moving Imran Khan from Adiala Jail are completely false. The jail officials stated, "Imran Khan remains at Adiala Jail and he is well. The rumors circulating on social media about his transfer are not true." The party of the Pakistani leader is calling on the government to remove the unofficial ban on Imran Khan meeting with people and to quickly set up a meeting for him with his family. The party emphasized that the people will not accept any doubt concerning Imran Khan's situation. They added that it is the government's duty to ensure the safety, human rights, and constitutional rights of Imran Khan.
