HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh stated that Visakhapatnam will be developed as the economic center of Andhra Pradesh with plans to turn it into a trillion-dollar economy by the year 2047. On Sunday, he initiated construction for Vizag's first AI-driven Edge Data Centre and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS), which will be built by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, a branch of Sify Technologies that is listed on Nasdaq. While speaking at the event held at A1 Grand Convention in Rushikonda, Lokesh recalled that in the 1990s, when IT firms began showing interest in Hyderabad, then Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu introduced Cyber Towers, which significantly contributed to the city's expansion. “Hyderabad took over 30 years to become what it is today. Visakhapatnam will accomplish this in just over ten years. This is our promise,” he affirmed.

Emphasizing Vizag's increasing economic significance, the IT Minister mentioned that in the last 17 months, over half of the 120 billion dollars in investments to Andhra Pradesh have been funneled into the Greater Visakhapatnam Economic Region. “This area will feature the largest steel plant in the country, representing the biggest foreign investment in India’s history. These investments are anticipated to build a strong economic framework, generating 2 million jobs across the country, including 500,000 IT positions in Visakhapatnam alone,” he expressed. Lokesh highlighted that establishing Visakhapatnam as the economic capital supports the government's aim for a single capital with decentralized development.“The public supported this strategy in the elections, giving a clear vote for effective governance, job creation, and economic enhancement,” he stated. The IT Minister also acknowledged the extensive backing from Vizag’s residents, reminding everyone of the city’s strength during the Hudhud Cyclone in 2014 and their continuous support for government plans.

“The double-engine government has helped major IT firms invest in the city, protected the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, and ensured that future projects aid both state and national economic progress,” he mentioned. The AI Edge Data Centre will be constructed on 3.6 acres in two stages, with an investment of 1,500 crore rupees, providing 50 MW capacity to support AI-focused businesses.Raju Vegesna, Chairman of Sify Technologies, remarked that this project corresponds with the company’s dedication to enhancing India's digital framework and transforming Visakhapatnam into a global hub for connectivity. APIIC Chairman Mantena Rama Raju, MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju, and BJP State president PVN Madhav were also in attendance.
