Most wanted person in Danville homicide exchanges gunfire with N.C. police

A man was shot while police were trying to take him into custody Monday afternoon. The incident happened around 3:25 p.m. in the 3100 block of Cottage Place. Greensboro police were helping Danville police crime detectives in apprehending a person of interest in a Danville killing. Greensboro Police Deputy Chief J.T. Cranford said Danville police has contacted his officers today about a suspect who might have been in Greensboro after escaping away Virginia following a homicide in the morning. The suspect was identified by the police authorities, Cranford said that officers have found him as , 30-year-old Diairion Marqui Davis, of Reidsville, North Carolina, at the Hamptons at County Park.

The suspect was sitting in a car when he was located and exchanged gunfire with Greensboro officers.

Two officers immediately fired back, striking the suspect. More officers moved in to apprehend the suspect and then tried to help him. A North Carolina man police call a “person of interest” in Monday morning’s homicide has been arrested on a weapons charge and is awaiting extradition. Police report a warrant for possession of a weapon by a violent convicted felon was obtained for 30-year-old Diairion Marqui Davis, of Reidsville, North Carolina. The homicide investigation is active and ongoing, police reported.“The Danville Police Department and Greensboro Police Department continue to work together in this investigation,” a news release stated.

Police said Davis is a person of interest in the deadly shooting of Arthur OBrian Anderson. Authorities identified that Davis was in Greenboro, North Carolina, on Monday afternoon. Davis was found in Greensboro and “will be extradited back to Virginia at a later date,” according to the authorities
