A Raleigh police officer was shot at an apartment complex on University Court off Lake Dam Road near Lake Johnson.

The incident took place about 2:45 p.m. as officers responded to a burglary call. A suspect was also shot, Police said.

Carlos Franklin, who lives nearby, said that, "It was like a frantic state of emergency, they were trying to move us as fast as they could."  

According to the Police, they and state troopers provided a frenzied escort to the hospital as both the officer and the suspect were rushed to WakeMed.

"There was like a lot of police around," said area resident Kayla Williams.
