Yet, the rapid scoring rates in T20 cricket have made it challenging for him to secure a place in this fast-paced format. The wicket-keeper-hitter had his last T20I match for India in 2022, with his slower scoring rate being pointed out as the main reason for his exclusion. Despite this, Rahul, who is now the leading scorer in IPL 2026, has maintained an average of 54 and a strike rate exceeding 180 this season with the Delhi Capitals. "The dressing room has consistently been in a good state. We strive to keep it balanced. We understand that the outcomes have not been favorable, but if you look closely, we weren't making significant errors. We had some truthful discussions. Yes, we missed opportunities in key moments. Apart from the last match, we were competitive in every other game; if a single over had worked in our favor, we might have won. So, we acknowledge that we played fairly well, but there were aspects where we really needed to become sharper and more focused".

This tournament and T20 cricket give you no extra chances. Therefore, it was crucial for us to make the most of our opportunities and when we had the lead, to really push hard to win, which we weren’t achieving. I’m really pleased that we managed to secure this victory and we hope to build on it with a few more wins; that will enhance our confidence, he stated. When inquired if there was one specific part of his performance that he felt happiest about this season, Rahul replied: “The strike rate. ” He added: “I think that has been a major topic of discussion for several years. It’s something I’ve truly put effort into improving. I’m glad that I’ve focused on this and that I’m contributing as needed for the team first and foremost, and meeting the demands of modern T20 cricket.
