A report indicates that the BCCI is looking to initiate changes in both ODIs and Tests. The board is eager to identify a consistent captain for each format, which is why Rohit has been requested to elaborate on his future plans. In contrast, regarding Virat Kohli, the management is willing to exercise patience for a bit longer. "The selectors and board members discussed this with Rohit around the last selection meeting. He has been informed that he must determine his strategy moving forward after the Champions Trophy. The team management has specific objectives for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle and the ODI World Cup. They wish to make sure everyone is aligned for a seamless transition," mentioned a source from the BCCI as quoted by the newspaper.

Among those considered for the Test captaincy, Jasprit Bumrah ranks as the top candidate. Nonetheless, the bowler's fitness concerns may hinder his aspirations for long-term leadership. Shubman Gill is another option, but his current form does not inspire the level of confidence the board would prefer. Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also being viewed as potential future leaders. "Bumrah's ability to manage a lengthy Test series or an entire season will constantly be questionable. The selectors might seek a more reliable option. Gill has been considered a captaincy candidate, but his performances in Test cricket have not been impressive. Rishabh Pant also stands out as a viable option, and perhaps Yashasvi Jaiswal could be developed for this responsibility," the report continued.
