A significant change in politics seems to be on the horizon in Bihar, as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is getting ready to join the Rajya Sabha. There is increasing talk about who might take over leadership in the state after him. According to sources from the Janata Dal United, the process for Kumar’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha is almost finalized. The nomination documents are prepared and only require the Chief Minister’s signature to be complete. He is expected to submit his nomination on March 5. This news comes shortly after Kumar celebrated his 75th birthday on March 1. Sources also indicate that Kumar will likely stay as Bihar Chief Minister until the Rajya Sabha elections, which are set for March 16. He may resign from his position after that.

If he transitions to the Upper House, it would mark a major change in the state's political scene. These events have led to many meetings within the Janata Dal (United). Party sources mentioned that senior leader and minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav had conversations with Kumar. Minister Ashok Choudhary also had discussions with him during this rapidly evolving situation. JDU national executive president Sanjay Jha visited the Chief Minister’s home once again for talks, which adds to the excitement around the upcoming Rajya Sabha nomination. Sources referred to these meetings as part of the planning for the party's future political direction. Ongoing discussions are also considering who might lead Bihar in the future. It has been suggested that if Kumar moves to the Rajya Sabha, the BJP might claim the Chief Minister position.

Meanwhile, Kumar's son Nishant Kumar is about to start his political career. JDU sources reported that steps are being taken to officially bring him into Bihar’s politics. There are also rumors that Nishant Kumar might be seen for the role of Deputy Chief Minister, although this has not been confirmed. Kumar has formerly been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the Bihar Legislative Council, and the Lok Sabha. If he is chosen for the Rajya Sabha, he will join the group of leaders who have served in all four legislative bodies, comprising both Houses of the Bihar legislature and both Houses of Parliament, a unique achievement in politics. The party has not made any formal declarations yet. However, with nomination papers almost complete and senior leaders having numerous meetings, Bihar seems poised for an important political change soon.
