The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is closer to opening after successfully testing its passenger services on November 29 and 30. This important trial happened before the airport starts regular flights on December 25. Airport officials stated that many volunteers acted as passengers to test all airport activities. The tests included everything from checking in and security to getting on the plane, arriving, and collecting luggage. Airlines like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express were part of this practice run. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the airport on October 8, and it is costing about ₹19,650 crore to build. When it is fully working, NMIA is expected to be one of India's biggest new airports and will greatly reduce the number of travelers at Mumbai's busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
NMIA announced on X: "We are getting ready to start flights on December 25 and can't wait to see you! Our team has finished the first passenger test with hundreds of pretend passengers. All parts, from checking in and security to boarding and getting bags, were tested perfectly."
The opening of the airport will be a big step for people living in Navi Mumbai and the greater Mumbai area. Everyone is waiting for December 25, when the first passenger plane is scheduled to fly from this new airport.
