Gmail is very popular, used by billions for emails and logging into other services. Lately, there's been much talk about whether Gmail uses your information to teach its AI without your permission. However, Gmail says this isn't true and promises it doesn't use your email data to train its Gemini AI. The company has often explained its AI privacy rules, noting that while some data might be used, personal email content is not. Gmail had to make this clear after a report from Malwarebytes suggested new AI features on the platform were being used to train Gemini AI. But Google has denied these claims, stating that these features are part of smart tools and are not for AI training. The company explains that these AI smart features read your emails to offer suggestions or help you write quick responses.
People have considered how their own information might be used to teach the AI system, Gemini, even though Google says this is not happening.
To turn off Gmail's smart features for AI on a mobile device:
1. Open Gmail's Settings.
2. Find "Smart Features" under "General."
3. Switch off the feature.
To turn off these features on a computer:
The steps are similar. Go to Settings to turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet.
This month, the company released Gemini 3 and a new AI image tool called Nano Banana Pro. The Pro version of the image tool offers users more features, like new abilities and editing tools. Google stated that Gemini 3 has better thinking skills and more accurate text creation.
